Love & Expectations

Olivia Bahoora Asfar-

What are you looking for in a spouse? Are you looking for someone who is faithful and loves God? Are you looking for someone who is kind? Maybe you seek a wealthy spouse - someone who is good-looking with a prestigious status.

When I was looking for my future husband, I wanted someone who would be faithful and have the qualities I was looking for in a future father. I didn't care about material things, his income, what village he came from, or what kind of car he drove. I cared about his big heart, as I searched for the simple things. I looked for a husband that would help bring me closer to God.

We all have different preferences and expectations. Our expectations are unrealistic at times. Our future spouses will not be perfect, but they should complement us.

Make a list of meaningful deal-breakers. When you meet someone who doesn't have any of your deal-breakers, give them a chance. Stop looking for someone who has EVERYTHING you think you deserve. Instead, look for someone you can grow old with.

Have an open mind and an open heart. Don't judge a book by its cover. You never know who you may fall in love with. Get to know someone's personality before writing them off based on superficial things that don't last.

No one is going to check off everything on your list, and you're not going to check off everything on their list. Marriage is about sacrifice, compromise, and love.
